KREI Saengsaeng Field Forum Held on Role of Urban Farming for Expanding Value of Agriculture Recently the public value of urban farming has been recognized, including welfare, jobs, diet improvement, healing, and community restoration. And to promote urban agriculture, the needs to secure space, provide convenience for participants, and develop business models have been emphasized. These contents were presented at the 6th KREI Saengsaeng Field Forum in 2018 on the “Role of Urban Farming for Expanding the Value of Agriculture” that the Korea Rural Economic Institute (KREI, President Kim Changgil) held in the Hopesoil conference room, Suseong-gu, Daegu, Nov. 8. The event consisted of the following presentations: “The Current State of School Gardens and the Effect of Participation in Them” by KREI research associate Heo Joonyung; “Using Urban Weekend Farms as Incubating Farms for Young People Who Begin Farming or Move to Rural Areas” by Kang Yeongsu, head of agricultural corporation Hopesoil; and “Daegu’s Five-Year Plan to Develop Urban Farming” by Professor Jeong Taeyeol of the Department of Landscape Architecture at Kyungpook National University. The presentations were followed by a discussion chaired by KREI Senior Economist Kim Taegon. |
