The Korea Rural Economic Institute (KREI) has promoted exchanges and cooperation in agriculture with China since Korea and China struck formal diplomatic ties. Since May 2000 when the China Agricultural Economic Research Institute (CAERI) of the China Agricultural Science Academy (CASA) and KREI signed an agreement on joint research cooperation, the two institutes have stepped up the level of exchange and cooperation holding joint academic events each year. In December 2003, KREI commissioned CAERI to carry out a research regarding production, distribution and export trends of hot pepper and garlic in China and relevant policy analysis, and related to this KREI has invited Chinese experts to hold an international workshop.
