The Korea Rural Economic Institute (KREI, President Kim Changgil) hosted the 2nd Forum on Korea-ASEAN Public-Private Partnership (PPP) in Agriculture and Fisheries at the Westin Chosun Seoul on August 21 (Mon.). This event is held for four days to the 24th. The 1st forum was hosted in Manila, the Philippines in late May 2016. This second forum was jointly run by KREI and the Philippine Department of Agriculture through the Korea-ASEAN Cooperation Fund to strengthen the partnership between Korea and ASEAN.

This 2nd forum was attended by about 20 people in charge of PPPs in agricultural and fisheries departments in Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam. Participants from the following institutions made special presentations: the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the Asian Development Bank (ADB), Kyung Hee University, Samjong KPMG, Korea Eximbank, and the Development Marketing Institute.

KREI President Kim Changgil sent a message that he hopes sharing relevant experiences of Korea and ASEAN members contributes to implementing the members’ effective PPP projects and developing better policies.

Agriculture and fisheries drive ASEAN member states’ economic growth. Recently, PPPs in these sectors have become important. Accordingly, through this forum, the delegates from the member countries reviewed each nation’s cases of PPP projects and related rules, and government roles, and discussed the direction for better PPP projects in the future.
