Forum on Fruit Industry in Preparation for Chuseok Peak Season Hosted
The Korea Rural Economic Institute (KREI) held a Forum on the Fruit Industry in Preparation for the Chuseok Peak Season at the Seoul Agro-Fisheries & Food Corporation on September 6. In the event, KREI forecasted that fruit shipments would increase during the Chuseok peak season (the two weeks before the Korean Thanksgiving Day), because this year’s Chuseok (October 4) is about 19 days later than last year’s. The shipments of apples, pears, and sweet persimmons in high demand during this period were expected to grow by 3%, 23%, and 9% respectively from the previous year, and their prices were forecasted to fall. Fruit & Fruit Vegetable Outlook Team Leader Park Miseong at KREI’s Department of Agricultural Outlook made a presentation on “Trends in and Outlook for Supply and Demand of Apples, Pears, and Sweet Persimmons During the Chuseok Peak Season”; research associate Park Hanul on “Supply-Demand Trends in Seasonal and Imported Fruits”; Horticulture Business Division Head Jeong Hyeryeon at the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (MAFRA) on “The New Government’s Policy Direction of the Fruit Industry”; deputy department head Shin Jingyun at the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation (NACF) on “Establishing Mandatory Fruit Self-Help Funds: Necessity and Current Status”; Lim Yeongju at the Rural Development Administration on “The List Management System of Substances Permitted as Pesticides”; and Director Go Gilseok at Joongang Fruits and Vegetables on “The Fruit Shipment and Distribution Situation.” Farmers, KREI researchers, and related people from MAFRA and NACF attended the forum and shared information. |
