Held Forum for Increasing Ginseng Exports

The Korea Rural Economic Institute (KREI, President Kim Changgil) held the “Forum for Seeking Ways to Increase Ginseng Exports” with the Korean Ginseng Association and the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation at the International Distribution Center of Geumsan Ginseng, Geumsan-gun, Chungcheongnam-do, Oct. 19. The event aimed to find solutions to difficulties in exporting Korean ginseng.
 

In his presentation, “Difficulties in the Ginseng Export Field and Their Solutions,” KREI research director Sung Myunghwan argued, “To increase ginseng exports, scientific advertising customized to local markets is necessary.” Also, he said that it is needed to strengthen safety at the cultivation stage; develop methods to reduce and remove pesticides; unify a system for establishing policies related to ginseng exports and managing them; expand sales by developing brands and raising awareness; increase export fund support to develop foreign markets; and improve access by building an overseas ginseng information collection system.
 

Semyung Universify professor Im Byeongok made a presentation on “Strategy to Increase Korean Ginseng Exports Through Quality Control,” Korea Hanyinhong CEO Im Jaehwa on “Korean Ginseng at Home and Abroad, and Suggestions for Development,” and team leader Han Hyeonju at NH Trading on the “Current Status of Hansamin (Red Ginseng) Exports and Their Expansion Plans.” The presentations were followed by a discussion on difficulties in exporting ginseng and their solutions. The major contents of the discussion included the need to standardize ginseng production and processing; the necessity of establishing a professional research institute; the need for scientific verification and clinical tests related to the effect of ginseng that can be recognized abroad; and the strengthening of marketing power through joint brands.
