The Korea Rural Economic Institute (KREI, President Kim Changgil) on the 28th held an international seminar on “The 10th Anniversary of Korea-ASEAN FTA, Retrospect and Prospect of Agricultural Trade” at KREI, Naju, Jeollanam-do, to review challenges in agricultural trade and seek the future direction for development in the 10th year since the Korea-ASEAN FTA took effect in 2007.
 

The following presentations were made in the event: “Trends and Implication of Korea-ASEAN Agricultural Trade” by Dr. Ji Seongtae at KREI; “Korea-ASEAN FTA 10-Year Performance and ASEAN Economic Community” by Dr. Kwak Sungil at the Korea Institute for International Economic Policy; “Trends and Prospects of Vietnam-Korea Trade in Major Agricultural Products” by Dr. Le Quoc Phuong from Vietnam; “Trade Trends and Major Challenges of Agricultural Trade of Korea and Philippines” by Dr. Roehlano Briones from the Philippines; and “Trade Trends and Major Policy Challenges for Agricultural Trade Between Thailand and Korea” by Professor Sitanon Jesdapipat from Thailand.
 

In a discussion that followed the presentations, discussants shared opinions on changes in the agricultural trade structure in the FTA implementation period, difficulties in the trade process, and improvement plans, and presented various opinions to protect domestic agriculture in response to the future growth of agricultural imports from ASEAN, and to increase agricultural exports to ASEAN.
