3rd Global ODA Forum for Sustainable Agricultural Development Held
The 3rd Global ODA Forum for Sustainable Agricultural Development was held in Seoul from the 13th to the 14th of May, 2019. This event was attended by 12 international organizations including World Bank (WB) and Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), and over 700 domestic and foreign experts. There were 29 presentations and heated discussions followed. On May 15, 2019, Ministry of Agricultural, Food and Rural Affairs (MAFRA), Korea Rural Economic Institute (KREI, President Kim Changgil) and related institutions had a bilateral meeting with international organizations. They came up with plans for the discovery and implementation of multi-bilateral projects for Official Development Assistance (ODA).
KREI, the host of the event, discussed where and how practical cooperation could take place by way of face-to-face talks with the State Minister for Future Food Security of UAE and representatives from the international organizations including International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), World Bank (WB), and International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI).
KREI signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with IFAD on May 13, 2019, and decided to come up with concrete plans for cooperation in the future. Joint research between KREI and World Bank would be promoted to improve the value chain of the Mongolian livestock industry. IFPRI, which is highly interested in areas such as statistics of agricultural production and improvement of the value chain of horticulture industries in Indonesia and Central Asia, has decided to actively cooperate with KREI's agricultural outlook projects and horticulture research projects. UAE and KREI has decided to conduct joint research on the export of agricultural products and have expert seminars on greenhouse design.
