A Study on Establishing Master Plan for Agro-Bio Industrial Cluster in Sangju

The purpose of this study is to establish master plan for construction of Agro-Bio Industrial Cluster in Sangju. This cluster has three innovation infrastructures such as 'National Agro-Bio Future Center', 'Gyeongbuk Agricultural Research and Extension Services' and 'Cocoon Area Village', and specific researches of these infrastructures are carried out at the same time.
This study consists of four parts: First. reviewing agro-bio industrial cluster theoretically. Second, analyzing external and internal environment surrounding Sangju agro-bio industry. Third, analyzing sectoral innovation capability related to Agro-Bio Industrial Cluster. Fourth, providing a vision, development strategies and sectoral plan of Agro-Bio Industrial Cluster in Sangju.
Major tasks for building an Agro-Bio Industrial Cluster in Sangju would be summarized as the followings:
First, it is necessary to establish innovation infrastructure of agro-bio industry, especially focused on three major projects such as 'National Agro-Bio Future Center', 'Gyeongbuk Agricultural Research and Extension Services' and 'Cocoon Area Village'.
Second, it is necessary to improve agricultural production infrastructure. The detailed plans have various utilization of rice paddy and developing Large-scale Environment-friendly Agricultural Districts etc.
Third, it is necessary to reform agricultural marketing system. Construction of the composite distribution center of agricultural products, making agricultural allied brand in Sangju, and construction of environment-friendly food material supply center could improve agricultural marketing environment.
Fourth, activating the exchanges between cities and rural areas and invigorating return to rural area for maintaining the current population of and revitalizing regional economy are needed.
Lastly, to strengthen innovation capability leading Agro-Bio Industrial Cluster is important. For example, managing 'Sangju Agro-Bio Innovation forum' for building a network among major agro-bio industry innovation groups in Sangju, particularly local university researchers, regional farmers and farming organizations could reinforce innovation capability of Agro-Bio Industrial Cluster.
