The purpose of this study was to provide a basic infrastructure for quality of life enhancement policies through investigation and multi-dimensional analysis of rural residents' quality of life.
The main contents of the study are as follows. First, an overview is given to describe the policy development for improving the quality of life and recent changes in the circumstances. Second, the quality of life of rural residents is examined. Finally, policy directions and challenges to improving the quality of life of rural residents are drawn up based on investigation and analysis results.
An analysis of statistics on situations of rural areas showed that the living environment is poor in rural areas than in cities. The quality of life in rural areas was examined comprehensively using an index developed to measure the quality of life. The results showed that there are regional and sectoral gaps in the quality of life and the level of local development. In rural areas, differences exist between sectors, and this is why a differentiating approach is required for different areas and policy sectors with respect to the policy on quality of life. In order to carry out quality-of-life enhancement policies more effectively, it is necessary to continuously develop better quality-of-life indexes. A survey was conducted on the residents of 10 rural villages. The survey found that there are differences in the satisfaction level of residents depending on the development level of village and the characteristics of village and individuals. Changes in the quality of life of rural residents need to be continuously investigated and analyzed to design effective quality of life policies.
Development and implementation of a comprehensive plan that considers all the policy sectors of the current policy is needed to improve rural residents' quality of life and to foster local development.
