Research Background

The economic, social, and demographic changes surrounding food consumption are rapidly influencing dietary patterns. As a response to changing food consumption behaviors, it is necessary to conduct multifaceted surveys on food consumption on a regular basis. In South Korea, however, government-approved statistics regarding food consumption focused only on food spending, while surveys on other areas remained insufficient to show the overall aspects of food consumption behaviors. To identify food consumption behaviors in detail and utilize the information as the basis for analysis in marketing and developing a food policy, it is needed to conduct a regular survey on food consumption behavior with representative samples.
