KREI Announces Declaration on Human Rights Management  

The Institute establishes a human rights management framework, hosts a declaration ceremony 

The Korea Rural Economic Institute (KREI) pursues human rights management to realize its social values as a public organization and promote the human rights of all stakeholders engaged in its overall management activities.

After the National Human Rights Commission of Korea recommended all public organizations to introduce human rights management in August 2018, KREI laid out an implementation plan in November. Also, it prepared guidelines for the establishment of a framework on human rights management and protection procedures in the first half of 2019.

Further, the Institute set up a committee of human rights management composed of nine members, including four external members in July this year. It held the first meeting of the committee on September 9 and approved the implementation plan and the declaration of human rights management.

As the next step in its endeavor for human rights management, the Institute held a ceremony on November 5 in Jungheung Resort. All employees attending the event, it announced the declaration of human rights management. The statement covers the Institute’s eight targets to achieve: compliance with international standards, prevention of discrimination in hiring, safety at work, employees’ freedom of association and collective bargaining, respect for stakeholders’ human rights, respect for customer values, prevention of human rights violations, and people-oriented management.

The Institute will carry out the human rights impact assessment as a preventive measure to protect human rights of all stakeholders engaged in its research and management activities. Also, it will prepare remedies for human rights violations to provide immediate help to victims. Through these efforts, KREI will fully commit itself to human rights management as a leading policy research organization.
