The Korea Rural Economic Institute (President: Choi Sei-kyun) hosted the policy seminar, “Agriculture Is a Future Growth Industry,” attended by about 300 experts from each field, at the Conference Room of the third floor of COEX, Seoul on September 22, 2014 (Monday). 

Recently, the agricultural sector’s anxiety is growing with expanding agricultural market opening including rice tariffication and the Korea-China FTA. This conference was held to present a hopeful vision of agriculture as the future growth industry by sharing Korean agriculture’s future strategies and tasks and various information and success cases of farming and rural areas.

The event consisted of “Session 1: Keynote Speech,” “Session 2: In-depth Discussion,” and “Session 3: Comprehensive Discussion.” The second session was divided into six sectors to find agriculture’s future growth engines. The first session especially attracted attention with keynote addresses of Minister of Agriculture Lee Dong-phil, KREI President Choi Sei-kyun, and the world-famous futurologist, Professor James A. Dator at the University of Hawaii.
