The Korea Rural Economic Institute (KREI) held 2014’s fourth KREI Field Forum on “Efficiencies in Energy Use of Controlled Horticulture” at the conference room of Jeollabuk-do Agricultural Research & Extension Services on September 30 (Tuesday).

KREI staff, facility horticulture-related local people, and public officials attended the debate, listening to presentations and participating in the discussion. The attendees especially agreed on the importance of energy-saving facilities in the country’s controlled horticulture and the use of new renewable energy.

Kim Yean-jung, KREI’s Department Director of Natural Resources and Environmental Research emphasized in the presentation, “Factors of Introducing New Renewable Energy Technology in Facility Horticulture: Results and Policies” that it was necessary to increase energy efficiency in agriculture and the use of new regeneration energy to respond to fossil fuel depletion, global warming, and environmental problems, thus saving agricultural energy.

KREI President Choi Sei-kyun stressed the necessity of energy efficiency and alternative energy again. He also said that it was needed to consider creating a manual on energy-saving facilities’ standard design and construction.
