The Committee for Unification Preparation and the Korea Rural Economic Institute (KREI) hosted a seminar, “Development of North Korea’s Rural Areas Through Inter-Korean Agricultural Cooperation” at the COEX conference room on November 24. At the conference, three themes on the two Koreas’ agricultural partnership direction were presented with a focus on “Cooperation for Rural Complexes” that President Park Geun-hye had proposed to the North in the Dresden Plan, and experts’ discussion followed. Dr. Kim Young-hoon at KREI said, “North Korea may start an agricultural reform in 2015 similar to China’s production responsibility system reform,” in his presentation on the Current State of the North’s Agriculture and the Vision for Inter-Korean Collaboration in the Agriculture and Forestry Sector. He also expected that if this reform went smoothly, the North’s agricultural production might rapidly increase like China and agricultural trade would expand between the two Koreas. |
