The Korea Rural Economic Institute (KREI) hosted the Global Industry Economy Forum on the "Policy Direction for the Development of Korea's Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries" on August 25 at The-K Hotel. The event was comprised of three sessions: agriculture, forestry and fisheries.
 
This forum aimed at preparing comprehensive strategies to advance production and marketing systems of food, agricultural, forestry and fishery sectors and to develop new markets discovering promising export items in an era of globalization with Korea's conclusion of free trade agreements with major countries including China, the US and the EU.

In this event, KREI President Choi Sei-kyun said, "The primary industries such as agriculture, forestry and fisheries need to aggressively and actively respond to globalization, rather than contracting passively." He also said, "It is time to discuss strategies and policy directions for agriculture, forestry and fisheries as future growth industries."
 
The experts who participated in discussions after presentations agreed that removing unnecessary regulations and improving systems are the most important to develop Korean agriculture, forestry and fisheries in an era of globalization.
