The Korea Rural Economic Institute (KREI) conducted KREI RelaySeminars from 1 p.m. on August 8 and 9 in the press conference room on the 20^thfloor of the Press Center.

Four seminars, organized by KREI’s research departments, were heldfor two days.

The seminar on the 8^th began with a guest lecture byProfessor Emeritus Yoo Janghee at Ewha Womans University, “The Global EconomicCrisis and the Future of the Korean Economy.” KREI’s Department of AgroindustryInnovation Research conducted a seminar on “Innovation for Developing Agroindustryinto a Future Growth Industry”; and the Department of Macro Agricultural PolicyResearch on “Changes in the Global Environment and the Future of KoreanAgricultural Policy.” KREI experts’ presentations were followed by discussionamong various experts including government officials, professors, and journalists.

The seminaron the 9^th started with a guest lecture by President Rodolfo M.Nayga of theU.S. Agricultural & Applied Economics Association (AAEA),“The Looming Demographic Cliff: A Wake-up Call for the Agricultural and AppliedEconomics Profession.” The lecture was followed by KREI’s two departments’ presentationsand experts’ discussions on the following themes: “Safe Food, Sustainable FoodSecurity” (the Department of Food & Agriculture Economic Research); and“Depopulation and Responses to Climate Change” (the Department of Rural &Environment Research).
