UNESCAP"s Training Program Held at KREI for Laotian and Cambodian Public Officials

The Korea Rural Economic Institute (KREI) hosted a training program for ten central and local government officials from Laos and Cambodia on the methodology and practical strategies of Saemaul Undong, the rural development movement of Korea.

The training program, which was entrusted to KREI by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), was carried out for ten days from April 6 to April 15 as part of UNESCAP's second-phase project of the Regional Poverty Alleviation Programme. 

The purpose of the training was to provide educational support to assist the two countries adequately conduct trial projects and develop policies for rural development.

In the training, lectures were delivered to introduce the founding principle of Saemaul Undong, project management techniques for rural development, and the roles played by the government and residents. The training also provided time to assess the progress of first-phase trial projects of the two countries and discuss ways to better draft implementation plans.
