The Korea Rural Economic Institute (KREI) and Seoul National University (SNU) jointly hosted the 3rd Korea-China-Japan International Symposium on Agricultural Economy on Oct. 26 at the Faculty Club of SNU. Prof. Kim Wan-Bae of SNU delivered the opening speech and KREI President Lee Dong-Phil and Prof. Lee Hak-Lae, Dean of College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, SNU, delivered a congratulatory message. In the first session of the symposium, which was presided by Prof. Roh Jae-Sun of SNU, Kim Kyeong-Duk, research fellow at KREI, and Prof. Zhang Qingyong of Renmin University of China, delivered keynote speeches on the subject of rural exodus and industrialization and on the transition of land use in China since 1949, respectively. In the second session, which was presided by Kim Jeong-Ho, a senior researcher at KREI, presentations were made by Prof. Lee Tae-Ho of SNU, Prof. Shoichi Ito of Kyushu University, and Prof. Dong Xiaodan of Renmin University of China. The subjects covered in the presentations were social stratification and aging in Korean agriculture (Prof. Lee Tae-Ho), aging and agriculture in East Asia (Prof. Shoichi Ito), and macro-economic cycle and labor circulation (Prof. Dong Xiaodan et al.). In the third session presided by Prof. Lee Byung-Oh of Kangwon National University, Prof. Jung Jin-Hwa of SNU and Profs. Hisako Nomura and Mitsuyasu Yabe of Kyushu University delivered keynote speeches.
