The Agricultural Outlook Conference, marking its 20th anniversary this year, is the biggest event in the agricultural sector. The conference has played an important role in farmers' and policymakers' decision-making with farmers and agriculture-related people gathering each year, examining the conditions of Korean agriculture and rural communities, and forecasting changes.

This year's conference aims to propose the direction of Korean agriculture and rural regions by examining domestic and overseas environmental changes including the changes in international order and agri-food markets, and seeking countermeasures.

In the first part of the conference, Minister for Agriculture Kim Jaesoo and KREI President Kim Changgil will make a presentation on "2017 Agricultural Policy Direction and Major Policy Tasks" and "2017 Trends in and Outlook for Agriculture and the Farm Household Economy" respectively. Science and Technology Policy Institute President Song Jongguk will give a special lecture on "The 4th Industrial Revolution, Agriculture, and Rural Communities."

The second part consists of presentations and discussion on the following policy issues: changes in the socio-demographic structure and responses; changes in the agri-food market and agriculture's way out; climate and technology changes and future agriculture and forestry; and changes in international trade and cooperation order and challenges. The third part is comprised of presentations and discussion on the trends in and the outlook for the industries such as grain, fruit, fruit vegetables, forest products, vegetables, and livestock production.

The conference will be held first at the Lotte Hotel, Seoul on Jan. 18; in the Jeollabuk-do provincial government building on Feb. 7 (Tues.) for the southwestern region of Korea; and in the Gyeongsangbuk-do provincial government building on Feb. 9 (Thur.) for the southeastern region.
