Hope to Rural Areas, New Life to the Institute - A Powerful Start with Year-Opening Ceremony

The KREI started a new year by holding a year-opening ceremony at Dasan Hall on January 2, 2006 with a strong determination to bring hope to rural areas and breathe a new life into the institute.

Choi Jung-sup, President of the KREI, started his opening speech in the ceremony by saying 'There are lots of local and global agricultural issues waiting for us this year, including the DDA and FTA negotiations.' He also added 'I hope that based on the recovered trust in agricultural policy, farmers, researchers, public officials and urban citizens work together to find win-win solutions throughout this year.'

President Choi mentioned that at the end of last year he submitted the KREI's vision 'Becoming a first-class research institute which is trusted by farmers and consumers by proposing solutions for balanced national development based on co-prosperity of urban and rural areas' to the National Research Council for Economics, Humanities and Social Sciences.

In relation to this, he emphasized that the strengths of the KREI should be further reinforced, while its weaknesses should be complemented. He also strongly stressed that the KREI should send hope to rural areas in the face of growing difficulties by making the most of opportunities and removing threats, and it is important to make the institute a pleasant place to work.

On December 30, 2005, the year-end ceremony was held at Dasan Hall where President Choi Jung-sup looked back on the past year and applauded and encouraged the hard work of employees. Employees with good performance were presented a prize, and a retirement ceremony of Dr. Heo Gil-haeng, who has worked at the institute for 25 years, was held.

The best employees of the year were granted a prize at the year-end ceremony. They include specialized researcher Sung Ju-in, researcher Choi Young-wun, Grade 3 administer Seo Jeong-pil, research staff Lee Gyeong-mi, guest researcher Moon Han-pil, and outsourced research staffs Won Ji-yeon, Park Hye-jin, and Han Gyeong-suk. The Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Award went to fellow Park Jun-gi, specialized researcher Jeong Hak-gyun, specialized guest researcher Park Jae-hong, and outsourced administrative staff Kim Seong-il.
