International Symposium on Clean Energy in Agriculture

The Korea Rural Economic Institute (KREI) hosted an international symposium to discuss the use of clean energy in the agricultural field and related tasks. The symposium was held on Sept. 30 at the institute's conference hall. During the opening ceremony, KREI Vice President Kwon Tae-Jin asked the participants to search for sound ways of expanding the use of clean energy in the agricultural field, saying that investment and support is necessary to find clean energy that can be used in the field and build necessary infrastructure for the establishment of a clean-energy agricultural system.
After the opening ceremony, keynote speeches were delivered by the following speakers: Prof. Terry Carroll of Newcastle University on clean energy and agriculture in the U.K., Zhang Yuhuan of Rural Development Institute of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences on the development and use of clean energy in rural China, senior researcher Boo Kyung-Jin of Korea Energy Economics Institute on government policy for supply of renewable energy and future tasks in Korea, and KREI researcher Kim Yean-Jung on the use of clean energy in agriculture and its implications.
Prof. Lee Kwang-Suck of Sungkyunkwan University chaired the general discussions participated by Kang Hyung-Seok, head of Green Future Strategy Division of the Ministry for Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Prof. Lee Sang-Ho of Sunchon University, Nam Ki-Woong, director of renewable energy planning of Korea Energy Management Corporation, Hyun Min, director of Buan Civil Power Plant, and Park Hyun-Tae, KREI senior research fellow.
