Vietnamese Officials Visit KREI for Agricultural Development
With an aim to learn Korea’s experience in agricultural development, a team of five high-ranking government officials from Vietnam paid a visit to the Korea Rural Economic Institute (KREI) on February 5.
The visitors included department chief for cooperatives and rural development at the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and vice president of the National Institute of Agricultural Planning and Projection (NIAPP). During the visit, the officials met with Choi Jung-Sup, president of KREI, and researchers Chung Ki-Hwan and Huh Jang, exchanging views on agricultural development in Vietnam and future cooperation between the two countries.
The Vietnamese mission also visited the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and agriculture related organizations to learn about Korea’s farm policies and promote bilateral cooperation in the field of agriculture. In addition, they also toured the municipalities of Gyeonggi and Gangwon for studying farm policies at the provincial level, and made field trips to rural villages noted for their success in rural development.
In order to support the rural development which the Vietnamese government has been driving forward, KREI has undertaken a consulting project to enhance the ability of Vietnamese to set up regional development plans based on the methodology behind Korea’s new village movement called the Saemaeul Movement.” Through such efforts, the Vietnamese government plans to carry forward trial projects for the country’s rural development.
In the meantime, the Vietnamese mission expressed their strong will to exert all energies to develop rural regions and eradicate poverty in the country by developing a unique model based on Korea’s experience.
