REI Commemorates 33rd Anniversary and Vows to Make Further Progress Through Creative Mind
 

   

 

On the occasion of the 33rd anniversary of Korea Rural Economic Institute (KREI), a commemorative meeting was held on March 31 at the Conference Hall. At the meeting, KREI President Oh Se-Ik delivered a speech and called on the audience to gather strength, suggest new visions for Korean agriculture and bring in a new progress to the research institute. He said, "we need to change our way of thinking and have a creative mindset to conduct advance research and resolve the piles of problems faced by Korean agriculture and rural communities." 


   Awards were also distributed for attendance records and those who provided stellar service. Long Service Awards were given to senior researchers Lee Dong-Phil and Choi Sei-Kyun and senior administrator Jun Il-Song for their service to KREI for thirty years and to senior assistant researcher Kim Eun-Jung for her service of 20 years. A Special Achievement Award was given to senior researcher Chung Chung-Gil. The Best Project Award was given to Kim Chang-Gil et al. for their study on revising the eco-friendly agricultural direct payment and on providing policy support for compliance of environmental standards. The Excellent Project Awards were given to Park Dong-Kyu et al. for their study on evaluation of and challenges to grain policy reform (2004) and to two other research projects. The Excellence Policy Project Awards were given to Park Dae-Shik et al. for their study of "The Evaluation of the Basic Plan to Improve Quality of Life and Development of a Second Basic Plan" and to seven other research projects.

 
  Following the ceremony, physics and astronomy professor Ihm Ji-Soon of Seoul National University delivered a special lecture titled 'Where do creative thinking and imagination come from?"

 
  Former KREI presidents Kim Young-Jin, Kang Jung-Il, and Huh Gil-Haeong and over 40 members of Yeonwoohwe, the KREI fraternity organization, participated in the event to celebrate the anniversary.
