The Rural Summit of Korea 2011 was held on December 22nd at the Training Institute for Food, Agriculture and Fisheries. Organized by the Korea Rural Economic Institute and hosted by the Ministry for Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, the meeting was held under the theme of "Our rural villages, together we create communities full of character." Over 300 participants were gathered and discussed the direction for revitalizing the community functions of rural villages. The participants included Suh Kyu-Yong, minister of agriculture, KREI President Lee Dong-Phil, representatives of rural villages, local governments and industries, and pro bono professionals.
In the morning session, which followed the opening ceremony, discussions were held in five sections on the following topics: three sections on the topic of creating villages full of character, one section on ways for developing key entities leading changes in rural areas, and the other on ways of making the Pro Bono-Field Activity Forum active.
In the afternoon session, KREI President Lee Dong-Phil delivered a keynote speech on new approaches for making rural villages active. Following the speech, Minister Suh chaired the conclusion session, and a panel of five experts delivered presentations and held a Q&A with the participants. Finally, five representatives from various fields adopted and proclaimed the 2011 Declaration of Rural Representatives.
