The Korea Rural Economic Institute (KREI, President Kim Changgil) appointed Dr. Suh Hyunkwon at Wageningen University, the Netherlands as its overseas adviser on July 18.
 

KREI makes efforts to strengthen its global capacity by appointing great foreign scholars and researchers at MOU partner institutions as overseas advisers, receiving information on relevant countries’ agricultural and major issues from them, building a database of research materials abroad, and reflecting them in research.
 

Dr. Suh is expected to greatly contribute to KREI’s related research by providing the latest agricultural information, such as the use of big data in the agriculture and rural sectors, and smart farms; giving advice on new research projects; and conducting field monitoring on studies.
 

That day, Dr. Suh had a KREI seminar. In his presentation on “The Future of Agriculture Changed by Big Data,” he emphasized the necessity of systematic preparation for the big data era. Particularly, he argued that it is needed to improve a system for utilizing big data, form a social consensus, and create an ecosystem by establishing an open platform.
